One of the greatest things to experience is watching a child develop. To see them grow from this little tiny infant to a child and then on to their teenage years is a miraculous event.
One of the most important things that you can do with your child is to read to them. Not only does reading to them plant the seed for their continued interest in the written language it also is a special bonding time between parent and child.
Reading aloud to your child has been known to have a calming effect on them. The next time that your child is fussy or irritable take him or her to a quiet little corner where the two of you can be alone. Take out a book and begin to read in a soft and gentle voice. Most of the time this is just what is needed and will bring serenity and peace to the situation.
Reading to your child, just you and him, will foster great memories for years to come. Your child will associate reading with good and positive feelings in his future years. Communication skills tend to be higher in a child who is read to. When you read to your child you are teaching him to listen, which will help him with his concentration and attention span. These are two things that he will take with him throughout his life that are very important.
Your child needs to know how important you think reading is and reading to him will show him just that. Other ways to show him the value of books are letting him see you read, visiting your local library and taking out some books and having books readily available to him.
Instill the love of reading in to your child. Stopping to read to your child for just a few minutes each day can change his future.
