Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and you want something special that says, ‘I love you.’ That something doesn’t have to be an expensive gift. Often it’s the little specially created things that show our love more than the big gestures. It’s not too late to come up with an inexpensive way of showing your love this Valentine’s Day.
Remember that old poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, How Do I love Thee, Let Me Count the Ways? Write something similar for your spouse, letting them know how much you love them.
If composing a poem seems way too hard or beyond your capabilities, simply make a list of all the reasons why you love them. Start each line ‘I love you because.’ They could be big things or just little things they do or say.
Cook their favorite meal and go all out with wine, candles, slow dancing and the whole bit. Ask a family member or friend to take care of the children for the evening or make sure you get them into bed early so you can have that special dinner together without interruption.
Make a CD filled with love poems or songs for them. If you can sing then you could sing them to your loved one. If you can’t sing, it’s better to stick with poems or recordings by other people.
Take your loved one on a late night drive to a secluded beach and have a late evening picnic or walk along the sand hand in hand.
Remember the old adage ‘the way to a man’s heart is though his stomach.’ I think we all like to know our spouse has made a real effort to please us so cook their favorite cake. Or go one step further and make homemade chocolates just for your spouse. There’s hardly a person alive who doesn’t like chocolate and your spouse will appreciate the extra effort of you making them. Maybe put their initial on each chocolate.
