There are some very good reasons to drink plenty of water. Not only is it important to do while you are exercising but it should become a regular part of your daily intake.
First of all, if you are exercising you usually sweat. When your body sweats it begins to lose fluid and since our bodies are mostly made up of water, you can become dehydrated. You will lose the effectiveness of your workout if you are dehydrated because your body loses energy.
Of course dehydration can also become dangerous. If you don’t replenish your body with water it could cause you to become sick and in severe cases it could lead to further medical complications.
Some studies have indicated that drinking water could play a role in regulating your metabolism. You don’t want your metabolism to slow down because then you won’t burn as many calories.
But drinking water throughout the day is just as important as drinking it while you exercise. It can help reduce your appetite. This is very important if you are trying to lose weight. It makes you feel full.
One trick I learned several years ago was to take a sip of water in between each bite of food. The more water you drink with your meal, the sooner you will feel fuller and you just might find that you don’t want to finish that entire plate.
Most health experts agree that you should be drinking between 8 and 10 glasses of water each day. Now if you are not already a big water drinker this can be difficult because your body isn’t used to it. What I always find a struggle when I try implementing this is that I am going to the bathroom every 20 minutes.
However with time your body will begin to regulate itself and it will be used to the additional water intake. It’s just a matter of getting past those first few days. So while water may not be the most interesting blog topic it really is an important component to your fitness routine.
