Hello, Art!

art

Sometimes Art likes to come and live at my house. I tell him to stay home and my husband pleads with him to go away, but really, secretly, I open the door. I rather like Art. If I had enough money I would get him a home all to himself and stroll around it, gawking.

Art came to live at our house again yesterday. Buying art can be an expensive habit, and it’s only one that I indulge in when I have some birthday money to spend. Since it’s not July yet, it is most certainly not the time of year when I have money, but yesterday art came calling and I had to take it up on the offer.

I went to do a rather mundane task yesterday. On the way up the stairs to said mundane task, I saw a large collection of painted sticks leaning against a wall. I love wood and would happily decorate the interior of my home with it. They were twisted and they had a beautiful grain and they were painted in beautiful colors that complemented the wood perfectly. I was curious, though, since I was in a complex inhabited by video editing services and a closet installation company. Whose sticks were they?

The video editing man sent me next door. He said that an artist lived there and that those were his sticks. I was sucked in. I knocked on the door. I took a good, long look at the sticks and picked out the ones that I liked the best. Now they are standing in my front hallway, where they look like long reeds poking up from the soil in the spring time.

Ah, beauty. It’s something that gets me every time. While I love frugality and I love to live clutter-free, one of the things that I love is having art in my home, art that represents a conscious decision about what I want to look at every day.

What do you love in the world of decorating?
