There are generally two schools of thought when it comes to the idea of “me” time. You either believe you are deserving of it or you feel guilty if you take it.
I used to play the martyr game. If I took time for me, I would lament how everything around me was going to fall apart. So others couldn’t really win with me. But the reality is that we really do need to take time for ourselves.
When you think of taking time for yourself, fitness might not exactly be the first thing you think of. But fitness is one of the best ways to take care of you. The number one excuse I hear for not exercising is that there isn’t enough time.
But we make time for what we want to. We make time to watch our favorite television shows, to take a trip to the mall or to read that juicy novel. So there is time, it is just a matter of deciding that “me” time must encompass your health.
Rest is good. I love rest. In fact, my favorite day of the week is Saturday. It is the only day I can sleep in and lounge around for most of the morning. I consider this “me” time. But I also want to take care of myself so I can be the best me I can be. That means I take time to exercise. That is the best me time there is.
You need to take time for you in order to stay healthy and live longer. I have noticed in the past several months that I have not gotten as sick this year as previous years and I know it is because I have been taking better care of myself.
If you have been feeling depressed, weary and run down the fix is to take more time for yourself but that means in the way of fitness. The idea of exercising when you are already tired or feeling down might not make sense. But it will actually increase your energy and lift your spirits.
Take time for you today.
