Apple Applies for Patent on Fitness Center App

If you have an iPhone or another similar device, you have a tool where a number of features and functions are easily accessible.

I have a Droid and since getting it in December, I have been amazed at the things I can do with it. Making a phone call is nothing compared to my ability to Facebook, listen to music, surf the web or take videos.

The app store is one of my favorite features. I have downloaded some really cool apps, everything from being able to scan bar codes so I can compare prices at different stores, to being able to identify the name and artist of a song by putting my phone against the speaker. You can even find lots of fitness apps that will help you in your quest to get healthier.

Well Apple has just applied for a patent on a Fitness Center App. It will bring a number of fitness-tracking capabilities under just one icon. Kind of a like a one-stop-shop for all of your fitness needs. Last week the United States Patent and Trademark Office officially published the patent.

Some of the neat features will include an ability to keep track of your workouts and using social networking to find potential workout partners. Personally I think that sounds a little dangerous.

But one of the main features of this Fitness Center App is the interaction between fitness centers and their customers. Potential customers can earn free passes to various facilities and then be kept up-to-date on specials or other activities taking place at their fitness center.

There are just a ton of cool features that you will be able to benefit from. It’s like taking all of these various fitness apps that exist and putting them into one. While it isn’t available yet, you might want to check out Patently Apple.

What do you think about fitness apps? Is this something you already use or would you?
