Kids Getting Botox

Photographer: stevendepolo

Very disturbing…images of an 8-year-old girl on “Good Morning America” receiving Botox. And guess who was injecting it into her? Her own mother.

During the interview the little girl said they hurt but she gets used to them and when the interviewer asked why she receives them, she tilted her head to the side and said, “I don’t know.” But then her mother whispers something to her and she says, “Oh yeah…” as if to be reminded of why she receives them.

That image continues to flash through my mind and it is very unsettling. I thought it was bad enough that teens were getting Botox…but now we have reached new levels when children as young as 8 are getting them.

Prom has already been held in most high schools across the country. While in my day the big deal was making sure your hair was high enough (I’m from the 80’s mind you), these days its making sure things are “lifted,” such as eyebrows or cheeks.

Yes, there is a growing trend of teenagers getting Botox and while prom is one of the more popular times, it is not the only time.

So who do we blame? We can certainly blame Hollywood for parading beautiful women across our screens and giving the message that you have to look this way to be successful. We can blame the media, magazines, books and television programs. But the reality is that these kids have mothers who either pay for the Botox and/or allow it.

What are parents thinking??? Are they trying to live vicariously through their own children? Do they think their children will have happier lives this way? Are they so caught up in trying to be better than the Joneses that it has passed down to their children?

I honestly don’t get it. I cannot understand for the life of me, why a parent would allow this…let alone be the one to actually inject their 8-year-old with Botox.

What do you think about children and teens getting Botox?
