This weekend is a great time to buy some video games for the gamer in your life. There are special deals going on that will only be around for a couple of days. I doubt it is a mere coincidence that this weekend also happens to be the one that Father’s Day falls on.
Video games seem to be something that you either love to play, or that you just don’t understand the appeal of. Historically, men tend to spend more time playing video games than women do, and they also tend to play a wider variety of games. This is changing, however, but the original perception persists. This could be why there are quite a few sales on video games this weekend. The assumption is that your dad will appreciate the gift of a video game on Father’s Day.
I happen to love playing video games, and I am neither a father, nor male. I’ve been playing video games since the atari system first came out, and I remember saving quarters so I could go to the arcade. Currently, my gaming focus is on World of Warcraft, and that has been the case since slightly before the Burning Crusade expansion came out. In other words, these deals on video games are not something that you should feel are exclusively designed for dads, or for men in general. They are for all gamers to enjoy.
Gamestop has a “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” sale on pre-owned “products”. This sale started on June 17, 2011, and will continue through June 19, 2011. It looks like you have to shop from their website in order to take advantage of this sale.
Click through their lists of used games for XBOX 360, XBOX, Wii, PlayStation2, and PlayStation 3. Choose at least three games. Use the checkout code JUNG1 when you check out, and your discount will automatically be applied.
EA Games has an amusingly named sale on video games. It’s called the “Manly-Man Sale”. You can get a bunch of games for the iPhone, the iPod touch, or the iPad for just 99 cents each. This sale will last through Father’s Day weekend, and then will be gone.
Some interesting choices for the iPhone or iPod touch include: Battlefield Bad Company 2, Madden 11, Tetris, Risk, and Dragon’s Lair 2. Each of those games are just 99 cents. For the iPad, you can get Madden 11, Sim City Deluxe, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, or Reckless Racing for 99 cents. There are other games that are being offered at a discount this weekend, but they cost more than 99 cents to purchase.
EA Games is also offering several online games for free that you can play on your computer. These include sports related games, as well as fantasy ones. Some are kids games that are created by Playfish, and other games are Flash based. My best guess is that most, if not all, of these games are going to work on a PC, but might not run on a Mac.
