In honor of all the procrastinating dads in the world, there is no time like the present to offer some last-minute surprises that you can bestow on the man of the house on this Father’s Day:
Personalized T-shirts: This simple idea is much cheaper than purchasing Father’s Day themed shirts from big box retailers. All you need is a plain white t-shirt that will fit dad and some colorful fabric-safe paint. Next, gather the kids and have them doodle or stamp their handprints on the shirt to create various patterns. If you have older kids, then have them write sentimental phrases, such as “No. 1 Dad” or “Best Dad in the Universe.” The paint only takes a couple of hours to dry, so you can have the gift done before dinner.
Customized bookmarks: If your dad loves to read, then have the kids create unique bookmarks featuring poems or hand painted pictures on heavyweight cardstock. Once the art work or special writings are done, then laminate it and present it to dad. If you don’t have a laminator at home, then take it to an office supply store or simply cover it with clear contact paper to preserve the bookmark for dad.
Herb garden: For the dad, who loves to cook, present him with his own window herb garden. Kids can get in on the fun by selecting the herbs and edible flowers to place in the container. Once the herbs begin to propagate, dad can transfer the them to the backyard where they can live, grow and be harvested for years to come.
Frame it: This may be one of the easiest Dad’s Day gifts ever. Simply collect a bunch of your kids’ homemade masterpieces (or have them make some new ones in honor of Father’s Day) and display them in frames that complement the colors used in the artwork. You can pick up several matching frames at a discount shop for less than $20. The best part: the entire gift can be made in less than two hours.
