How often do you do laundry? I don’t remember how often my mom did laundry. There were a lot of us, so I’m sure she did it frequently. The washer and dryer were on the service porch and pretty easily accessible.
When Chris and I got married we lived in a townhouse in Huntington Beach. We had a washer and dryer in the garage. I did laundry on Mondays. I had to run up and down the stairs frequently but it worked out well. The pantry in the kitchen had laundry hookups for a stacked washer and dryer, but it was more convenient to have regular appliances in the garage.
When we bought our first house the laundry facilities were upstairs where the bedrooms were. There wasn’t a laundry room; it was more of a laundry closet. The washer and dryer were behind accordion doors. There was storage space in the closet as well. Except that there wasn’t a lot of space, it would have seemed to be an ideal setup.
Our next house had a large laundry room off the garage. The builders supplied all the homes with appliances, so we left our washer and dryer in our old house because we were getting new ones. Our first house when we moved to Texas had a really nice laundry room and I had to get used to using an electric dryer.
The house we’ve lived in for the past five years has the washer and dryer hookups on the wrong sides. Doing laundry is a bit of acrobatics. Now that we have children I seem to be doing laundry every day all throughout the day.
I would love for my next laundry room to have a sink, a counter, a lot of storage, and the washer and dryer on the right sides.
