More Fun on the Fourth

Ocean Spray is making it extra easy for you to show off your patriotism this Fourth of July.

Actually, if I see the company’s commercial for its red, white and blue cranberry juice drinks one more time this week, I may choke on my pink lemonade.

All kidding aside, there is no excuse not to get into the holiday spirit, especially since Independence Day is less than a week away. Besides decorating with traditional red, white and blue banners, balloons and streamers, there are a number of ways you can celebrate America’s birthday in style.

For example, you could create an entire buffet of red, white and blue foods. Start by making an eye-popping patriotic fruit pizza. Simply use a sugar cookie crust; top with cream cheese mixed with Marshmallow Fluff; and then add sliced strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in a fireworks pattern. Finish with a few dollops of Cool Whip and you’re ready to party.

Another sweet treat featuring the patriotic color scheme is an easy fruit trifle. Just use store-bought angel food cake cut into chunks, Cool Whip and a bunch of fresh strawberries and blueberries. To assemble, layer the cake chunks, and then spoon a generous amount of Cool Whip on top. Next, add a layer of the strawberries and blueberries, another serving of the Cool Whip, and then the cake. Repeat until the bowl is filled to the top.

Continue the patriotic theme with cupcakes decorated with American flags or red, white and blue candy. Beverages could include strawberry Kool-Aid, Hawaiian Punch, and Blue Berry Blast Powerade. Another option is to whip up some red and blue colored JELLO, then add a layer of cream cheese in between to keep the Fourth of July color scheme going. Finally, top some of your menu options with some sparklers and let the fun begin.
