The Magic of Tylenol

Today has been a difficult day with the toddler. Jessie got up around 8:30 hot, flushed, and feeling less than great. I was concerned that she had contracted Fifth’s Disease because she had that slapped cheek look. We got an email alert from the president of our foster parent group that Fifth’s has been making the rounds of the daycares. My friend who watched Baby E during Jessie’s developmental pediatrician appointment told me earlier that her son had come down with Fifth’s.

Baby E was not up yet, so I didn’t have anyone to compare Jessie to. I called the pediatrician with the information I had. By the time I talked to the nurse Baby E had been up for a little while and was just fine. If Jessie had Fifth’s she wouldn’t have fever, malaise, and rash at the same time. The rash would come after the sick feeling. I was relieved. Jessie was just sick.

Jessie ate a yogurt and a half for breakfast and requested dinosaur cereal. I made the oatmeal for Jessie, but she didn’t touch it. Baby E ate some, though, and even navigated the spoon very well for an 11-month-old. I pushed fluids and Jessie was good about drinking, although she didn’t drink as much as she normally would.

Jessie spent a lot of the morning sitting on my lap watching cartoons. She didn’t eat the chicken strip lunch that Baby E and I enjoyed, but said she wanted chicken when it was gone. I fixed her strawberries, which she didn’t touch. She didn’t feel well.

We had to go to an appointment for E so I gave Jessie some Tylenol before we left. She was energetic and playful while we were there. She talked the whole way home.

I hope the Tylenol I gave her before bed helps her sleep.
