Make cute stools for your home. Your kids will love helping build them and they’ll also love using them.
Upholstered Stool
Choose one of the stools from the previous article to build. You might want to use pre-made furniture legs instead of bun feet for this style, to make it a bit more stylish. You will probably also want to make it a little larger. Before attaching the legs, simply cover the top with quilt batting, and staple it securely to the back. Next, cover with fabric. Start stapling in the middle and pull the fabric taut as you work your way around. Pay special attention to corners. Attach the legs, and paint or stain them to match the fabric.
Upholstered Stool with Cushion
This style is constructed much like the one above. However, instead of applying batting to the top of the stool first, you will need to apply a piece of foam with spray adhesive instead. Then, cover it with batting. Apply the fabric as directed above. Attach the legs, and paint them or stain them as needed. Add trim if desired.
Upholstered Stool with Skirting
For a cute stool that any little girl will love, follow the directions above and then add a skirt. The simplest way to do this is by stapling fabric to the underside of the stool, gathering it every so often, and allowing it to drape down from the stool to the floor. If you staple the fabric to the outside edges instead of the underside, add trim to hide the staples. You can also sew the skirting on much like you would a slip cover. Just pin the fabric in place and sew from the underside. You may want to finish the skirting before attaching the legs. Since the legs will be covered by skirt, it doesn’t really matter which style legs you use and you won’t need to paint them unless you want to.
