Preschoolers love the wonder of rainbows. Using rainbows is a perfect tool to teach color and creativity. Spend an afternoon creating your own rainbows while teaching colors, color mixing and even basic academics. Playing with rainbows should be a fun, low pressure, activity for all to enjoy. If you are not too sure about that just send your child on a Rainbow Hunt and have her pick out all the colors of the rainbow from items around your home. From food to socks you can find ways to build a rainbow.
Necklaces: You can make rainbow necklaces out of beads or cereal.
Rainbow sorting: Have children sort beads, pom poms, or cereal by color using a muffin tin or other container.
Rainbow Goop: Mix 1 cups water with food coloring and add in 3 cups of flour or cornstarch to make one color of goop.
Rainbow Streamers: Help your child make tape streamers in rainbow colors over an entrance way to make a rainbow doorway. You can use the streamers and yarn to make a rainbow skirt. Simply tie the year around your child’s waist and add the streamers!
Make a rainbow: Make a rainbow out of Skittles, pom poms, pipe cleaners, cereal, or construction paper.
Rainbow Mosaic: Draw a rainbow with a pencil or print a template out. Then tear up construction paper in colors of the rainbow in small pieces. Now glue the pieces in rainbow order onto your template.
You get the idea! Use a variety of mediums to bring the wonder of rainbows into your home.
