Pool Workout

swimming pool 2

Summer is by the far the number one season for being in the pool. The sun is hot and jumping in a pool can be majorly refreshing. So when it finally got hot around here, I went into my parent’s pool. I soon realized what a great workout swimming and playing in the pool can be!

You can get a great workout from the resistance the water provides. This is great for people of all ages and especially beneficial if you have joint problems. Just remember it is safer to swim with a buddy than swim alone. For some safety tips and game ideas, especially when swimming with children, click here.

Swim Laps

Swimming laps is one way to definitely get in a workout. Try for a certain length of time such as ten minutes and see how you feel. If that is easy for you, keep going for another ten minutes. Keep it interesting by trying different swimming strokes.

Ball Toss

Tossing a ball back in forth with a partner is a great pool workout. Use a medium size beach ball that floats or another type of water resistant sports ball. First swim a few laps around the pool to warm-up. Then toss the ball back in forth in about waist-deep water. Then the real challenge is a ball toss in the deep end of the pool.

Kick-board

My favorite leg workout while in the pool is doing laps using a kick-board. You put your hands towards the top of a kick-board, holding on with arms extended, and you are ready to start kicking. This is a great leg workout. If you don’t have a kick-board, you can also do a similar workout by holding on to the side of the pool and kicking in place.

Summertime is a great time to enjoy being the pool. So while you are playing in the pool, you might as well get some exercise! Try these tips and share what works for you. Also remember to be safe while playing inside or near a pool!
