Planning a Baby Shower Part IV

I am still in in the middle of planning a baby shower for my sister who is thirty-three weeks pregnant. She and her husband live out of state and will be traveling “home” for a quick visit, which means this is the only opportunity to throw her a baby shower for her first child.

The invitations have been written, addressed, stamped (with floral stamps), and sent. I have even received a few RSVP’s; four out of fifty so far. While the invitations were initially my biggest concern, now that there written and sent, I can focus my energy on more of the finer details for the shower.

These details take a lot more energy than I anticipated so it is a really good thing that I finally have my energy and motivation back! One of the major details are the flowers. I am using potted flowers as door prizes for games (these flowers will also double as decorative themed pieces) and I will be using flower blossoms to garnish the cupcakes. I originally wanted to get edible flowers and candy them, but it seems that edible flowers are out of season here (as are many other delicate flowers like pansies and violets). Needless to say, I will not be using edible flowers nor will I be candy-ing any flowers. I also did a practice run of the cupcakes and frosting (just one batch). I discovered the white chocolate ganache does not maintain any thickness suitable for frosting so I will be making a buttercream of sorts instead (which is actually quicker to make than ganache).

Finding flowers have been quite the task considering that they are quickly reaching the end of the their individual seasons. Many of the flowers I have found are … well … lets say cost prohibitive. I have looked at five or six different garden centers and finally found the perfect flowers at the perfect price and size. I will use these potted flowers for both the door prizes and for the cupcakes.
