Questions to Ask for Choosing a Yoga Therapy Program

If you’ve decided you want to become a yoga therapist, the next step is to select the right program. Ideally, you want a yoga therapist training program that fits your yoga philosophy, interests and experience. There are some questions you can ask to make sure a specific program is a good fit.

Is the program generalized or specialized? Generalized programs provide a broad education that covers many conditions. Specialized programs focus on a specific health condition. There are programs that specialize in depression, multiple sclerosis and other conditions. Whether you want generalized or specialized programs is a personal decision that depends on how you want to spend your career.

What is the structure of the course? Ask questions about the material and subjects covered in the course. Find out about the practical experience that is built into the course. Ask if there will be an internship and any questions related to the material covered and internships required to get a good feel for the course.

Who is teaching the course? You should find out a little bit of information about the background, expertise and teaching philosophy of the teacher. Ideally, you want this to be a good fit, since you will be spending time with that person.

Do the logistics of the course fit your life? The perfect program is far from perfect if the courses don’t fit with your schedule. Can you fit the training program in with your responsibilities at work and at home? You need to make sure you can commit to the time and work requirement of the program to ensure success.

How much does the course cost? Are there payment plans or other financing options available to help you afford the course? Don’t be afraid to ask specific questions. You want to make sure the course will fit your budget.
