How to Save on Baby Care

baby There are at least two facts about babies: They are awfully cute and they need a lot of things. All of the things that babies need cost money. If you are cutting corners and trying to be frugal, you’ll need to know the secrets about saving money on baby care.

Baby Food

There are two main ways to save on baby food. You can combine coupons and sales to get the baby food at the lowest possible price. Check out warehouse stores, too. Buying baby food in bulk can usually save you quite a bit.

For more dramatic savings in baby food, try making your own. Baby food is a lot cheaper when you make it yourself from scratch. it isn’t all that hard to do, either. Invest in a food grinder (you can use a small, new coffee grinder or food grinder. There is no need to overpay on a specific baby food grinder).

Take advantage of local fruit and vegetables, preferably organic, to make your own baby food. Just be careful of feeding any food rich in nitrates, such as carrots, beets, spinach or green beans to a baby under three months old (most pediatricians don’t recommend starting solid food until at least four months anyway, and some say six months).

Baby Equipment

From Diaper Genies to wipe warmers, cribs to changing tables, there seems to be a lot f expensive gear for babies these days. But what did people do centuries ago? A lot of items can definitely be taken off of your list. For example, instead of a changing table, just get a changing pocket that can be bolted to an ordinary top flat dresser that you have anyway.

The reality is that after the first few weeks, you’ll probably find yourself changing baby where it is convenient: on the bed, on the couch, on the floor, etc. A few waterproof changing pads will do the trick at a much smaller cost.

Borrow or buy used whatever you can. Just be sure to diligently check recall notices, and never buy anything when the history of the item can’t be verified.
