If you work from home and you want to take a vacation, sometimes it is possible to take care of business and get things to a point where you can leave it all at home for a week save for the occasional phone call or email. Many times though, in order to be able to take a vacation you must be willing to take at least a little work with you. This week, I am on vacation. My husband, my son, and I left Vermont last night and drove to Cape Cod to meet up with my dad, my sister, and my sister’s boyfriend. We’ll be here for almost a week, and I am very excited to spend some quality time with my family.
Last week, I tried very hard to get ahead on my work, but to no avail. Extra projects came up that I could not turn down because I need the money, and I just could not get as much done before we left for our trip as I thought that I would. Fortunately, I am not very stressed about bringing work with me. The work that I have to do this week takes a couple of hours each night. I think that it is going to be just fine, at least it will be if tonight is any indication of how the rest of the week will go.
Tonight we all went out to dinner, and we were back at our hotel by about 8:45. Our son was asleep by 9:00, so I was able to sit down to work fairly early. There are no household chores to compete with my attention, either. Our hotel room has a television, which is something that we do not have at home. My husband is as happy as can be, watching a baseball game. He also has a book that he is reading. Our evening plans this week may not seem that exciting to many people, but for me it is just perfect. We are spending time all together and having a wonderful time. I am able to find the time and space that I need to do the work that I have planned to accomplish this week without cutting in to the time that I want to be available to my family. It is going to be a great week.
