Have you seen the movie “The Help”? It’s the perfect friend flick. It examines the bonds that can be formed with individuals who don’t share the same DNA, skin color or social status. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. But, most of all, you will leave the movie theater thankful for your best friends.
I happened to love the movie. I wish I could bottle up all the lessons that were featured in it and place them in a scrapbook. I have five very, very good friends who could benefit from a memory book dedicated to our 30 (plus)-year-old relationship. We’ve seen each other through the good times and the extremely bad. Being able to page through an album documenting our journey through life would make the perfect gift. I have tons of photos of us together and can easily purchase appropriate embellishments, but unfortunately, I was not gifted with the eloquence of Shakespeare, so I would have to rely on others for phrases and quotes that best describe the love and admiration we share for one another.
Here are some of my favorites:
“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.”–Oprah Winfrey
“Since there is nothing so well worth having as friends, never lose a chance to make them.”–Francesco Guicciardini
“When you choose your friends, don’t be short-changed by choosing personality over character. “–W. Somerset Maugham
“What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.” –Aristotle
“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.” –Winnie the Pooh
“Friends are relatives you make for yourself.” –Eustache Deschamps
“One measure of friendship consists not in the number of things friends can discuss, but in the number of things they need no longer mention.” –Clifton Fadiman
“No road is long with good company.” –Turkish proverb
“A good friend is cheaper than therapy.” –Author unknown
