Tattoo Day

Well I have made the decision to get the tattooing done. I am a little nervous I am a very squeamish person so I am not looking forward to the process. I have the appointment set for a few days from now. My husband is going to come with me for support I am lucky to have a hubby who has supported everything I have done so far.

Did you know that when you have chemotherapy it can weaken your bones? That is why they do a bone density test on you every year. Well I mention this because I was stupid and fell off a two-step step- ladder and shattered a bone in my foot called the talus. They usually only see these types of fractures in high impact crashes like plane crash but me with my bad luck break it in pieces from a step ladder!

Now I cannot say for sure but we believe that the bone was weaker because of the chemo and the fact that I was deficient in vitamin D. We think this because these bones are not supposed to break like that from a small fall.

With a break as bad as I had I was to put absolutely no weight on it for 8 weeks. 8 weeks is a long time during the summer when you have 3 kids home with you. When I reached week 9 I reset my appointment for tattooing.

My husband drove and honestly the whole procedure was very weird. First she pulls out this color pallet like you see when you go to the paint store. We had to pick a color for the nipples and areola, the nurse made suggestions to best match my skin tone and she ended up mixing a couple of colors. I suddenly was beginning to feel like an arts and crafts project.

Once the color was decided we had to choose a size. She pulled out different size circles; there were bottle caps, plastic joints that should be under the sink and a few other things. When the size was determined the fun began. She traced the appropriate size on, injected lidocaine and began to color within the lines. It was very odd laying there while she did this. I have to wait 2 weeks before I can get the girls wet again. Fingers crossed that the color looks ok.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
