Should You Consider Adoption Part 4

Another concern that I have heard is that they adoption is way too much money. I am not going to lie some adoption agencies are very expensive. There are two in the Dallas area that when we called them they said for a toddler it was $25,000.00 plus ½ of our W2’s.

When I got up off the floor I started calling around and found an agency that worked with CPS and they did not cost anything. We did our parent training with them, they did our home study all at no cost to us. They get paid by the state to find qualified adoption and foster parents.

If you have a baby the good old fashioned way and your baby is born with no complications the first year of doctors, diapers and formula will run you about $5000.00. If you or the baby has any complications you can at least double that cost at least and that is if they are delivered on time. If your baby decides to make their entrance early and is premature then the cost for the first year jumps to at least $50,000 and that does not even cover your missed time from work.

If you try IVF you are looking at least at about $12,000 per try, some insurance cover a few tries but you still have the cost. You will also have the side effects of the medications to do the IVF. A surrogate can go from $20,000 on up and some states don’t even recognize surrogacy as a viable option.

Do you know how much I paid to adopt my three kids from foster care? NOTHING. We kept all of our receipts from when we traveled to them for training and for the placement of our kids and we were reimbursed by the state when our adoptions were finalized. The state even reimbursed us for our adoption attorney who got paid when we got reimbursed.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
