Diaper in the Laundry

I have two very messy children. I should probably do laundry every day, but I can’t get my lazy self excited about doing it that frequently. I’m even worse about putting clothes away, so doing laundry more frequently won’t work.

The other night the girls didn’t have any of their favorite pajamas to wear. I had to tackle laundry. I sorted the laundry and put the light load in first. I don’t always sort the laundry, but it worked out better for this particular wash.

I went to take the lights out of the dryer and put the darks in the dryer before I went to bed. I opened the washer and discovered a fibrous substance on the door seal. I took some clothes out and the clothes were covered in it too. I recognized the stuff but I couldn’t place it. Then it hit me. How did a diaper get in the laundry?

I thought about running the clothes through the wash again, but I didn’t want to deal with it; I wanted to go to bed. I took my phone to bed with me and asked my Facebook friends for advice on how to handle diaper guts in the wash. Most of the advice was to just run the wash again and keep rinsing until it’s gone. My ever helpful father-in-law only wanted to know the contents of the diaper that went through. You’re a card, Dad.

I scooped out as much of the diaper innards from the washer drum as I could. Then I rant the load through again adding any new dirty clothes. What a relief; the clothes are clean. There’s still some diaper fiber on the door seal, but I can wipe that away.

I have no idea how the diapers got there. I’ll have to watch what I’m loading.
