What does your hotel room look like when you check-out?
Is the bedding crumpled on the floor? Are wet towels thrown on chairs or do you dump them in the tub?
Do you leave the place looking like a pigsty and figure you’re just helping the housekeeping staff earn their pay for the day?
According to a recent poll, more than 60 percent of American hotel guests pile their used towels on the bathroom floor, leave puddles near sinks and bathtubs and throw bedding and pillows around the room.
Bottom line: Most guests don’t treat hotel rooms the same way they do their homes.
So how do hotel housekeepers react to dealing with the aftermath of slobby guests?
The majority say they are used to witnessing crude conditions, but if they had their wish they would like to see more neatness in the bathroom-—starting with wet and soiled towels.
USA Today surveyed nearly 4,000 hotel housekeepers about where they would prefer guests leave their used towels on check-out day.
A whopping 80 percent of respondents said they’d love it if hotel guests would leave dirty towels piled in the bathtub or shower stall. Other top picks include hampers, counter tops, shower curtain rods or on the hanging hooks in the bathroom.
Housekeepers say you can tell a lot about a guest by where they leave their dirty towels.
Really?
I leave them piled on the counter or in the sink because I don’t stay in luxury hotels that feature hampers in the room. Also, I wouldn’t consider dumping towels in the tub because I typically shower before I check-out and I can’t imagine that hotel staff would want to pluck soaking wet towels from a stall. Though, after reading the survey results, perhaps I am wrong.
