Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of August 30, 2011

headphones Insurance can be confusing, and complicated, at times. You might find things easier to comprehend if you listen to someone explain it on a podcast, than if you tried to sit down and read some articles about insurance topics. The weekly Insurance Podcast Roundup can help you make sense of things.

NPR has an episode of Morning Edition that was released on August 29, 2011. This episode talks about the new poll done by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The poll shows that about half of Americans who do not have any form of health insurance do not have a good understanding of how the Affordable Care Act will help them to find affordable health insurance.

PBS NewsHour has an episode that was released on August 29, 2011. This episode talks about the cost of damages caused by Hurricane Irene. Gwen Ifill talks about the storm’s impact and the cost of the government’s multiple disaster relief efforts with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Since most of the damages caused by Hurricane Irene are going to result in insurance claims, I felt this was a relevant podcast to include on the Insurance Podcast Roundup this week.

Insurance Information Institute has a video episode called “Trees and Insurance: Tips on What Is and Is Not Covered”. If your home or property was damaged by falling trees due to Hurricane Irene, you may want to view this video. It could help answer some of your insurance related questions.

The Covert Rationing Blog has a podcast episode that was released on August 29, 2011. This episode is called “Eliminating Waste and Inefficiency Is Not Enough”. In this episode, Dr. Rich talks about ways that the cost of health care can be reduced. He backs up what he says with mathematical data.

CBS21 News has a video episode that was released on August 24, 2011. David Punt, from State Farm Insurance, talks about earthquake insurance. This is in relation to the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Mineral, Virginia in Central Pennsylvania.

Wisconsin Radio Network released a podcast episode on August 25, 2011. This episode is called “Walker officials release health reform impact report”. The episode goes into detail about how employees in Wisconsin will be affected by the federal health care reform.

American Public Media has an episode that was released on August 24, 2011. This episode is called “Some employers ready to drop insurance in 2014, deficit tops out at $1.3 billion”. Part of this podcast talks about a survey that says that one out of every ten mid-sized or big employers are expected to stop offering health coverage to workers once the insurance exchanges start in 2014.
