As single moms we are always putting our children first, but sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves too. Everybody knows that taking on the responsibilities of a single parent can be overwhelming. It takes a toll on every aspect of your life. After a while you just get burned out. When you start feeling like you’re on the verge of breaking down take a little time out to pamper yourself. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Yeah right, I’m a single mom. I don’t have the time or the money to pamper myself!” I’ve been there, I know that feeling and this is me telling you that you can!
If you can afford it set aside a few dollars every time you get paid for a special day of pampering. It doesn’t have to be much, even $5 or $10 a paycheck goes a long way. Go get your hair cut, go get a massage, go get a pedicure, just do something to help you relax and unwind for an hour. Once you have given yourself some time to recharge your batteries then you can get back to the kids. It helps you become more available to them and it helps you keep your focus without the effects of mommy burn-out!
Some of us just don’t have the money to put away every month. Don’t worry; you can still take a little time out for some pampering from home. After the kids are in bed go draw a bath, light some candles, grab a book or turn on some soft music and just relax. After a long day of taking care of the kids there is nothing better than just sitting in a warm bubble bath.
Just because you have children doesn’t mean that your needs disappear. Everybody needs a little break sometimes, so don’t be afraid to take it!
