What is Marriage Fitness?

Have you heard of Mort Fertel? Maybe you’ve seen his banner ads or received an email promoting his Marriage Fitness program? No? I did and because I am curious by nature, I wanted to check out. You can visit his website for yourself and check out what he has to offer.

Who is Mort Fertel?

According to his about me, Mort Fertel is a world authority on the psychology of relationships and has an international reputation for helping people renew their marriage. In addition to working with couples, he teaches individuals how to single-handedly transform their marital situation. Currently, Fertel has over 75,000 people subscribing to his free e-zine and I’m one of them.

He has authored texts, articles, a tele-boot camp and a founder of the Marriage Fitness Center for Relationship Renewal. In essence, he’s a life and love coach that offers some positive solutions to help couples reconnect and rebuild their marriages. He bases a great deal of his work on his own personal experiences with marriage including the rifts in his own marriage that began with the deaths of three children when they were newborns.

So what is marriage fitness?

Marriage fitness addresses the idea that if you and your spouse are having problems with each other as well as being stressed, you cannot tackle your problems effectively. In essence, your timing will be off. Many couples may find that trying to positively work through problem resolution when they are disconnected from each other just leads to further problems and makes it less likely that they will resolve their issues.

The program of marriage fitness does not focus on communication skills or conflict-resolution. Fertel states that they are not the key to saving the marriage and they will not fix things that are wrong. Instead, he applies the theory that there are laws for relationships – there are habits that will make the relationship and the marriage stronger.
Couples need to learn to reconnect with one another. They need to apply the laws of marriage fitness to make the marriage stronger and once they have developed these skills and applied these laws, they are in a better position to address their relationship issues.

How Does It Work?

The program is Fertel’s design and it begins with the 7 steps to a successful marriage which you can receive via email when you sign up for his newsletter at his website. He offers that it’s not about counseling, it’s not about dredging up the past and it can be successful for a marriage even if only one spouse does it.

That’s a different twist. It’s also one that I think offers a provocative solution to some marital issues. While it does cost money to enroll in one of his sessions, it’s a potential avenue that some couples may wish to explore if they have not been successful in marriage counseling or other problem resolutions for their marriage.

I plan to pick up a copy of his Marriage Fitness: 4 Steps to Building & Maintaining Phenomenal Love and I’ll share with you my thoughts on it. Check back here next week for that review. In the meanwhile, you can visit Mort Fertel’s Marriage Fitness site on the web and have a look for yourself.
