The Climate Reality Project

“24 Hours of Reality will focus the world’s attention on the full truth, scope, scale and impact of the climate crisis. To remove the doubt. Reveal the deniers. And catalyze urgency around an issue that affects every one of us.” –Al Gore

I was watching “50 Documentaries to See Before You Die” today because…well, I love documentaries. One of the top 50 was Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, which I have not seen yet.

During a break, a commercial ran for The Climate Reality Project and I had to dig a bit deeper into that to see exactly what it was all about.

The Climate Reality Project is an event that will be broadcast live and online around the world for 24 hours, from September 14 through September 15. It will represent 24 time zones and be broadcast in 13 different languages. Among the features will be a multimedia presentation by Al Gore that will be presented every hour. It will also feature real people who have been affected by the changing climate. These are people who have suffered from floods, droughts, storms, and pollution.

But, the broadcast isn’t just about trials and tribulations. It will also feature real solutions to these real problems. Innovative and systemic solutions will be introduced to help solve the climate crisis. Even the public will be asked how to help solve the problem.

So far, there are 5 million members and supporters to whole to log in on the 14th to view the broadcast. These are people who have visited the Climate Reality Project web page and vowed to log on to watch the broadcast. Of course, you don’t have to pledge to watch all 24 hours of it, just watch as much coverage that you find interesting.

And the best part if you never have to leave your home or office because it will be live, online. As with most events today, there is a Facebook page (107,556 people “like” Climate Reality so far) and Twitter (it currently has 41,914 followers).

There are four days until the broadcast, but you can visit the web page to sign up for updates from Gore and other Climate Reality members.

About Libby Pelham

I have always loved to write and Families.com gives me the opportunity to share my passion for writing with others. I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
