There is nothing worse than getting a stain that just won’t come out. Here is your first defense guide for some common stains. Keep it mind that stains come out easiest when they are fresh, and stains that have been run through the dryer are almost, but not always, impossible to get out completely.
Blood Stains
The trick that works for me every time is to first run the stain under cold water until the water runs clear. Then take a small amount of shampoo and rub it into the stain. You may have to scrub a little bit to get it out. Rinse again with cold water and hang to dry. Then launder as usual.
Ice Cream Stains
It used to be that I would only give my kids vanilla ice cream, but since they are no longer toddlers, I really can’t get away with that any longer. You might say that I have quite a bit of experience with ice cream stains, especially chocolate ones.
Take the item as soon as possible and soak it in warm but not hot water for about 15 minutes. Use a stain treatment, such as a stain stick or a spray. Then wash as you normally would.
Ketchup Stains
Another common stain in the Romans household is the ketchup stain. The sarcastic inquiry, “Would you like some french fries with your ketchup?” was probably coined just for my son.
To remove a ketchup stain, first rinse it in cold water until the water runs clear. Then soak the stain in a mixture of warm water and laundry detergent for about 15 minutes. After soaking, rub more detergent on the stain and then launder the item as usual.
Grease Stains
If you attack a grease stain right away, then it is easy to make it come out. Use some dishwashing detergent on the stain. Rub it in and then rinse the stain in hot water. Repeat again until the stain is all gone. Then laundry the item as usual.
