A Grand Halloween Entrance

witch

For a long time, there was an amazing Halloween house down the street. Every year on the stroke of the day before Halloween, the people who lived there would unload a piece of fabric as large as the front of their house and drape it from top to bottom, making the entire home look like a castle. From black lights to a giant skeleton superimposed on the tree across the street, their house was outstanding and no one could compete. Sadly, they moved away last year.

However, their Halloween shenanigans inspired me to do more with my house on Halloween. It’s a great family event around our house, since we live in a townhouse complex. So far, I’ve created a haunted house out of plywood that I can tack together every year. I can light it from the inside to create a super spooky look. There’s a giant spider web that stretches across the bushes in our yard, and the front door is set up like a haunted sweet shop, complete with cockroaches made out of dates.

What can you do to create a creepy entryway for Halloween travelers this year?

Black light is amazing, and hanging a black curtain adorned with neon paint or paper with a black light tucked underneath will give your entryway a very creepy look. Add white or neon bats, spiders, and skulls to the underside of the curtain.

How about a giant spider web tunnel? Create a funnel that people need to duck into the move up to your front porch. Or go ghoulish with a big cauldron with dry ice slowly drifting from the top.

For those who are more into the fall festival aspect of Halloween, line your walkway with welcoming scarecrows who point the way up to the front door. I’m also quite fond of brown paper bags cut into pumpkin shapes. Add different colors of glowing, battery-operated lights to the bags to make a simple but lovely Halloween walkway.

What are your plans for a grand Halloween entrance?
