We recently got “Scripture Scouts: Musical Adventures in the Book of Mormon” for our children. I first heard about “Scripture Scouts’ when I asked a mother how her Sunbeam age boy knew all of the scripture stories that we talked about in Primary. I wanted to know her secret. She told me that he learned them from listening to the tapes. Since “Scripture Scouts” has recently been released to CD, we decided to buy them and give them a try.
I was initially a little nervous about how the entire package would be put together. I didn’t want anything, which was over the top cheesy or that treated the scriptures in an irreverent manner. I was pleased to find that the CD’s did neither of these things. All though the character of the dog seems to be a little overdone at times. Another worry that I had was that my children would think that they were boring, and not really pay attention to them. Well that has not been the case at all.
Whenever I put on the CD’s, my one-year old starts clapping his hands and dancing around. He loves the infectious melodies that the characters’ sing as they tell the stories. My daughter also enjoys listening to the stories, and seems to be grasping the concepts, which are being taught. We are planning on taking these with us on our next road trip.
In addition to CD’s on the Book of Mormon you can purchase ones that are about the Old Testament, New Testament and the Articles of Faith. If you are looking for another fun way to teach your children the stories in the scriptures, this is a great way to do it. I would recommend using these in conjunction with the teaching that you are currently doing. These CD’s seem more focused on reaching children in Junior Primary.
