Over the past few decades we have seen the rapid change in the dynamics of our society. More and more women are going to college, are out in the work field, and climbing the corporate ladder. The problem is that while women are moving up, their male counterparts are doing quite the opposite.
I recently read an article on CNN addressing this very issue. In 1950, only 5% of men were unemployed. Just last year the numbers jumped to 20%, the highest ever recorded in history. Women now surpass men in getting college degrees by nearly three to two. Not only that, but men are more distant from their families than ever. This article claims that nearly 40% of children are born out of wedlock compared to the 11% of 1960.
So what is a single girl to do? How do you find good men out there with numbers like these. We all hear women complaining about the prolonged adolescence and the lack of maturity in men these days. They’re too busy playing video games to worry about founding virtues like marriage and family. One study claims that men ages 18-34 are spending more time playing video games than boys ages 12-17. Anybody else see a problem with this? While women are out getting degrees and finding successful careers, men are at home, playing video games instead of working, getting married, and raising families.
After one failed marriage I often wondered if men were really worth the trouble. I took care of everything anyways. I did the cooking, the cleaning, the finances, took care of the baby, all while going to school. I barely saw him because he too was busy, out playing with the guys and still trying to be a kid.
So men it’s about time you shaped up, because it is looking less and less like we need you.
