Spending Time With My Sister Part III

On the third day of visiting my sister her husband was off to work/class bright and early before we awoke. Once I awoke, I began making breakfast for the three of us (my usual egg omelet). We ate breakfast together after which I did my prenatal Pilate’s while my sister nursed the baby and my son read books.

Our plan for the day was to get some baking done in part for preparation for a brown bag craft night for us ladies and in part to use up some of my sister’s orchard fresh apples. Baking in someone else’s house is always a bit of an adjustment mostly due to the differences in equipment and placement of items in the kitchen and pantry. Once I had everything I needed gathered on the counter, I began making the pie crust for the apple pie. I recently made an apple pie at home with lard and fresh ground soft white wheat berries and the result was amazing. It was too bad that I did not bring any lard with me. I have had great success using butter as well so that was my fat of choice. Once the disks of pie dough were chilling, I started working on the pie filling and my sister worked on making pumpkin muffins (for the craft night). The apple pie went into the oven followed by the muffins.

In the midst of our baking frenzy, my sister and I did not take a break to eat lunch. So we had a quick bite to eat, at which point my sister’s husband returned. He stayed with the kids while my sister and I made a quick run to the store for cream cheese frosting ingredients. While we were gone he found the time while watching a two year old and a four week old to make dinner.
