Social networking has just become a way of life for most of us. With over 800 million Facebook users all over the world it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have an account these days. It is a great way to stay in contact with old friends and see what is going on in people’s lives.
My ex has always been pretty anti Facebook. He thought it was a waste of time and swore up and down that he would never in a million years have one. Famous last words! Today I got a friend request from him! Now my ex and I have a pretty good relationship, we get along better now than we ever did when we were married, but I was still a little taken back by the request. If I accept his friend request he now can see all of my pictures, who I’m talking to, where I’m going, what I’m doing, all of my statuses, etc. Do I really want him to be able to see every little detail of my life? I’m not really sure.
If I choose not to accept the request is that going to cause more unnecessary drama? It’s hard to say. While I don’t want any hurt feelings, I have kept my everyday life under wraps for a reason. We aren’t married anymore, we don’t need to know the details of what’s going on in each other’s lives. On the other hand, it would be nice to be able to keep tabs on him to make sure he doesn’t fall back into old habits that could potentially be dangerous for our son.
Funny how something as silly as a friend request can cause so much anxiety. What about you? Would you ever “friend” your ex? Something to think about.
