Weight Loss Its A Family Thing

SO my weight loss journey has become a family thing. All 3 of my kids are considered to be overweight and one even obese when it comes to the BMI. It is not because we don’t pay attention to what the kids are eating because we really do. I truly believe part is genetics now they are all adopted so I cannot use the fact that they have my genes as a reason but having seen pictures of their biological family I do think it is part of it.

I had taken my daughter to the doctor once when he used the word obese with her and I called him and told him if he ever used that word again with her or my other two kids that we would be finding a new doctor. For the first 3 years of her life we had to pump her full of protein shakes and such because she had failure to thrive and when she was 1 she was the size of a 6 – 9 month old baby. She is still short for her age but she is gaining weight just fine now, according to the doctor too well.

The doctor asked why I don’t want him to use that word with the kids and I explained he can use the terms he would like them “healthier”, that they should make “healthy choices on foods” but I did not want them to develop an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia.

My daughter at already tells me she thinks she is fat. She is solid with muscle not jiggly with fat. I had to hide the scale because she got so obsessed with her weight even a pound increase and she would get sad.

When she went to the doctor this week she was very proud of herself in the last year she gained 6 pounds but lost 7 more that he did not know about. She went up 13 really but since we started working on it lost 7 of them.

She told him that she signed up for basketball, drinks water more, eats so much healthy food and loves to dance around. She was so proud of herself and I was proud of her. My middle son has lost 8 pounds since we started our changes. I am not weighing yet I know I am loosing something my pants are so loose on me.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
