Dollar store gifts can be inexpensive without looking that way. It is all in how you find the treasures and how you bundle or package them. With more and more Americans spending less and less this holiday season, it is important to find new creative ways to get great gifts for everyone on your list. You can do this through dollar and discount stores.
First, take the time to visit a few different dollar or discount stores. They aren’t all created equal. You may find that some offer better deals than others, or offer specific kinds of great gifts. Take the best you can from each store.
Kids Craft Kits and Craft Supplies
At our local Five Below, there are a number of large craft kits for only $5, although they look like they cost more. You can pick out everything from a rock painting kit or a jewelry making kit to a spy kit or a science kit. Likewise, you can pick up cheap crayons and colored pencils and pair them with coloring books that cost $1 or less.
Baby Clothes
While the styles are simple and the materials may be a bit less refined, you can find many cute two- and three-piece outfits at your local discount stores for under $10 and sometimes even under $5 for infants. Compare that to prices elsewhere and you can see what a bargain this is. Not every dollar or discount store sells clothes, but many of them do.
Cookies and Baked Goods
Pretty holiday cookies bought at the dollar store can be taken out of the boxes and rearranged on an attractive plastic or ceramic plate, also bought at the dollar store. Add a bit of colored plastic wrap and a ribbon to make this a great, inexpensive gift. Add a couple of holiday chocolate kisses candy (or bells) to the plate of cookies for extra festiveness.
