AS I mentioned in my last entry my whole family is on this weight loss journey with me. My middle son is so proud of the progress he is making. He has a goal of being healthier basketball player. All three of the kids joined the local basketball team and a condition of it was they had to eat healthier, drink more water and use the exercise bike for 30 minutes 2 times a day.
Before we started our weight loss journey my son would always ask for soda or milk to drink; however now when he asks for a drink it is usually water. If we go out for a dinner (which we hardly do now) we tell him he can order a soda. You may think that he could just order diet but for most kids on an anti-epileptic medication they are advised against it. The sugar substitute tends to cause the medication to stop working as it should.
My kids all started their basketball practices this past week. My sons are both on one team and my daughter is on a girl team. The morning after the first practice my little girl who is usually the first one out of bed had to be woken up four times, then she got dressed and fell asleep putting her shoes on. She said her legs felt like rubber. I told her that was a good sign that she was working new muscles. She said she was so sore and tired I told her that it would get better with every practice.
When my sons started basketball they thought it was going to be a piece of cake boy were they wrong. They all kept talking about how fast they were at running and how easy basketball was going to be. They laughed at their sister because she was sore. The morning after their first practice you would think that someone took a bat to their legs. I must admit my daughter and I did laugh at them because of how much more they complained compared to her.
