Don’t overlook the fine details when constructing a holiday layout. Often, it’s the little touches, such as proper photo placement, fonts and adhesive selections that can make the difference between an ordinary page design and an extraordinary one.
When it comes to page titles or journaling blocks, you can enhance a holiday theme by using fonts that are decorated with seasonal details. Fortunately, many websites offer free fonts for scrapbookers that are embellished with festive designs, such as letters covered with snow or topped with Santa hats. Other choices include letters printed on Christmas ornaments or made to look as though they have been carved out of Christmas trees. My favorite Christmas font features letters made from candy canes.
If you are looking for a surefire way to make your holiday layouts shine, consider using Christmas-themed dingbats to create memorable page titles or other messages. Dingbats use decorative shapes to represent letters and numbers, and during the holiday season you can find a host of different selections, including snowmen, angels, Christmas gifts, reindeer, cookies, wreaths, Santa Claus, snowflakes and candles.
In order for you to make the most of the free holiday-themed fonts found on the World Wide Web, you will need to download them as .zip files. This entails extracting the file from its compressed folder before installing it on your personal computer. Some websites make this process easier than others. Some of my favorite sites to score free Christmas-themed fonts are Fonts and Things, The Holiday Spot, Font River, Font Space and 1001 Free Fonts.
Just remember when you are surfing the Internet for free Christmas fonts, you need to read the fine print carefully. Most of these no-charge fonts are for personal use only; meaning you are not allowed to use the designs to create layouts or digital scrapbooking supplies for sale. To be on the safe side, look for free Christmas fonts that are labeled, “Public Domain” or “Commercial Use Allowed.” Doing so will help you avoid breaking copyright laws.
