This is my last home business blog for the year 2011. So I don’t want to miss an opportunity to talk about the importance of setting goals for the year 2012.
You may be at the start line. You are ready to get started, to get a home business off the ground. Or you may already be in the race, midpoint and wondering how much further you have to go. Perhaps you are the fortunate one who has already reached the end, experiencing nothing but victory in your accomplishments.
No matter where you are in this, there are always things to strive for. So goal setting is not something only certain people need to do. I believe it is vital for anyone who is starting up, is in the midst of creating or is already running a home-based business.
Goals need to be achievable. If you write a two page list of all the things you want to see happen in 2012, you are overreaching. Make it doable. Stick to at the most, five goals. But I personally believe that having just one or two goals will more likely bring you success.
Then set a deadline. When do you expect to achieve those goals? I don’t recommend giving it an entire year. That is too broad. Put a date on your calendar. But then post it somewhere nearby so you will always be reminded of it.
The next thing you need to do is to start working toward those goals. Setting goals is one thing but taking active steps to make them happen is another. Along the way you may find it necessary to tweak your goals. After a month or so, re-evaluate them to determine if they need to be redone.
Or if you reach your goal, that’s the time to set new ones. It feels very good to actually reach a goal. This will motivate you to set another.
The New Year is quickly approaching. Set time aside to really think about what you hope 2012 brings and how you will make it happen.
