Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of December 25, 2011

Minnesota History Museum Are you looking for something genealogy related that you can do this week? Do you want that thing to be something that will get you out of the house? Look over this quick list of upcoming genealogy events, classes, and workshops. One might be happening near you! If not, then check your local newspaper for more genealogy events.

On December 26, 2011, the Minnesota History Center, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, will be open. They will open at 10:00 in the morning, and will close at 5:00 in the evening. Check out The 1968 Exhibit to get a good look at some history your relatives lived through. There will be a Kwanzaa celebration at the museum that same day starting at noon, and ending at 4:00 in the afternoon.

On December 29, 2011, the Genealogy Club, located at the Joseph H. Plumb Memorial Library, in Rochester, Massachusetts, will meet from 5:00 in the evening until 7:00 in the evening. They meet every Thursday. No registration is needed in order for you to attend.

December 26, 2011 through January 1, 2012, has been declared “Start Your Family Tree Week” by the Irish version of the FindMyPast website. Now is a good time for genealogists, wherever they may live, to get started on researching and creating their family trees. Doing so could include a trip to your local library, to take advantage of their resources. Check their webpage to find out the days and times that your local library will be open this week.

From now, through December 31, 2011, the city of Yukon, located in Oklahoma, will have “Yukon’s Christmas in the Park”. This event will be open from 6:00 in the evening through 11:00 at night.

It includes 4 million twinkling lights, that can be seen as you drive through a tour of three inter-connecting city parks that have been decorated for Christmas. If you family celebrates Christmas, then visiting this event could become a new tradition. Genealogists need to remember to connect with living relatives, from time to time.
