Baby Bump Photos

Michigan’s Lake Superior State University wants to eliminate the words “baby bump” from our lexicon. Today, the school released its annual “List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness.” In addition to “baby bump,” the words “occupy,” “ginormous,” “man cave” and “the new normal” have been voted on to be dropped from our daily vocabulary.

Fat chance of that happening, especially if you are expecting a baby in the next few months. The New Year typically brings with it a slew of deals on maternity photo packages. The deals offered by professional photographers are a great way for moms-to-be to document a magical stage in their lives.

If you are like millions of women around the world, who are opting to invest in professional photos to capture the miracle of life, there are some factors to consider before you strike a pose. For starters, you really shouldn’t book a photo session until you are in the second trimester of your pregnancy. Most professional photographers encourage expectant moms to wait until they are at least six months along in their pregnancy before getting their pictures taken. After all, the larger your belly, the more dramatic the photo.

Wardrobe is another key consideration when taking pregnancy photos. It’s not a good idea to wear really tight fitting clothing when posing for your pictures. In addition, leave your elastic waist pants at home, as they can leave impressions on your skin. This is especially important if you are requesting pictures of your bare belly be taken.

Also, consider the condition of your hands. Most pregnancy photos feature at least part of the subject’s hands in them, so it might be a wise decision to have a manicure before posing for your pregnancy pictures. Your nails can shine, but your face shouldn’t. Hot studio lights can cause perspiration, so have light powder on hand for touch-ups.
