Baby Banks by Stephen Joseph are my surprising find. Surprising because while I thought the banks were cute I never would have guessed the impact it would have on my daughters. These adorable little ceramic banks are only 3” x 3.75” and come in four different animals: monkey, tiger, owl, and lady bug. A little gift for only $6.99 that will bring such a joy to a child. Really. I could not believe it either.
The day the banks arrived my girls gathered around the table eager to see what was in the package. Immediately my older daughter grabbed the tiger bank and my 3 year old grabbed the lady bug bank. They actually danced around with them as if this was the toy of the century. These are two little girls who have more than their fair share of toys. Each of them was delighted to have a place to keep their very own money. My 6 year old immediately gathered all her coins from her many purses and placed them in her bank. She even searched the floors and then asked me to donate to her cause. What was her cause? To get enough coins to go to the dollar store and buy whatever item she wanted. My three year old followed this lead by asking me and her other siblings for money to place in her bank. My three year thought every coin was a penny but soon learned to differentiate the coins. The girls are not saving their pennies and counting them up daily. Daily. It is a good thing the banks are quality since they are always on the move with two little girls doing their best to fill them up.
In the end, it is an adorable item and for a great price you can put a smile on a child’s face. And this sneaky mom also gets some money lessons out of it.
