How to Say “I Love You” Without Breaking the Bank

left

Listen. Do you hear that?

It’s the sound of Valentine’s Day sneaking up on you.

Love Day is less than a week away. That’s good news for lovebirds, not so much for eagle-eyed frugalistas looking to preserve their bank accounts in these tough economic times.

Given that overpriced flowers, jewelry and chocolate are among the top Valentine’s Day gifts in the United States, it’s no wonder many wallet-
watchers get nervous this time of year.

Fortunately, there are a variety of inexpensive ways to show your sweetheart how much you love him or her on February 14th. The following simple homemade Love Day gift ideas are sure to score you a slew of hugs and kisses this Valentine’s Day:

BLOOMING KISSES

Materials:

Hershey Kisses

Five-inch square of red or pink cellophane

Green pipe cleaner

Green florist’s tape

Silk flower leaves

Instructions:

Fold the pipe cleaner in half.

Place the chocolate Kisses on the cellophane, so that the flat ends touch
and the pointed ends extend to opposite corners.

Fold the cellophane over the Kisses to form a triangle.

Fold the bottom point of the triangle up so it meets the top point of the triangle.

Twist the ends together at the top to make a rosebud around the two Hershey Kisses.

Twist the pipe cleaner around the cellophane ends.

Hold the silk leaves in place on the stem, and then gently wrap the stem with florist’s tape, making sure not to crush the leaves. Cover the entire stem.

Repeat the process for each rosebud.

Make as many as you wish to form an appropriate sized bouquet for your sweetie.

Another affordable gift idea is to print out love coupons that are personalized especially for your special someone. The customized coupons can be for household chores, such as vacuuming, dusting or doing the dishes. Or, you could tailor them to include special indulgences, including a massage, bubble bath, a foot rub or breakfast in bed.

Once you decide on the type and amount of coupons to give to your loved one, consider displaying them in a hand decorated frame. Simply purchase a plain photo frame from the Dollar Store and embellish it with stickers, sequins, glitter, buttons or feathers. Then, place the mini coupons inside the frame and present it to your betrothed on Valentine’s Day.
