We Need More Food Holidays

I’m not a very good cook, I only cook enough to keep us alive, but if I have something to celebrate, then I love to cook!

I love cooking for a crowd on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I actually look forward to it, plan it out and dance around the kitchen, excited for everyone to come to dinner.

The rest of the year, not so much, cooking is boring!

In an effort to make every day a holiday and motivate myself to cook I decided to take advantage of some of the lesser known holidays. So dust off your apron and get ready to treat your family to some special meals. Some of these holidays celebrate specific food so put your thinking caps on.

February 11th is Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk day, I think that sounds like a perfect excuse to eat cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preferably on the kitchen floor with a cat nearby for any spilled milk.

March 28th is Something On A Stick day- hmmm, corn dogs, marshmallows, hotdogs, popsicles, or you could make appetizers for every meal and serve them with lots of toothpicks. A toothpick is a stick, right?

April 20th is Lima Bean Respect day, it’s going to be hard to come up with a dessert for this one!

May 27th is Grape Popsicle day, if you are not a fan of grape popsicles I guess you could just freeze some grapes instead.

June 13th is a holiday made for me, it’s Kitchen Klutz’s day. I may or may not have once dropped the Christmas ham on the kitchen floor when removing it from the oven. If I had done that I would have just rinsed it off and served it anyway, not that that ever happened.

July 9th Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Omelet day. A day about eggs, that’s easy, breakfast, lunch, dinner and lots of desserts. Your cholesterol level may not be happy about this one.

These are just a couple to get you started, there are many more. Days that celebrate cheese, fries, marshmallows and TV dinners. Use your imagination, these may just become your new favorite food holidays. It’s good to have fun in the kitchen, it brings the family together. However you might want to skip turkey neck soup day.
