Selling on Craigslist

ice skates I’m starting my adventures.

I feel as though I am constantly de-cluttering the house. We have three children that quickly outgrow clothes and toys and change interests. We are also taking our time to turn our fixer upper house into a comfortable home which means that furniture and other things that once fit in our old house (or was gotten temporarily) no longer works with our new plans.

For example, we are turning one room from family room into a dual office and guest room, which means downsizing the bookcases (and the books) that were in there.

Normally, our family just gives away or donates unneeded items, but with cash being a bit short, I thought I would try selling some things on Craigslist. So far it has been an interesting but not all that profitable business.

The first thing I did was to list my daughter’s old competition ice skating dress and skates. I priced both very reasonably, since any money would be essentially profit when I thought to donate them in the first place.

I got into a week-long email conversation with one potential buyer who waited to tell me that she lived out of state and expected me to drive down to sell her the items. I offered to mail them, but that didn’t work for her. Really? Um no.

I wound up bringing the dress to the Ice Rink and sold it privately there. I did re-list the skates for this experiment.

Today I’m going around the house to list a few more things: another dress, a Little Tykes basketball hoop, a pair of toddler snow boots. I’ll probably hit my daughter’s room next to see if there are any outgrown dresses that can turn into cash to be used for bigger dresses.

I’ll keep you updated on the Facebook Families.com page and let you know how it goes. And meanwhile, if you are interested in a pair of ice skates or a basketball hoop …
