Adding anything into a tight schedule is a challenge. Adding in working out into a tight schedule can be next to impossible. I feel that way mostly because the thought of working out makes me want to crawl under a rock.
I do not hate working out. I hate working out in this overweight body. When I was in shape, I enjoyed working out. There was a time I worked out twice a day. I enjoyed the energy and strength I had from sticking to a work out routine. Then, it happens.
The “it” is different for everyone. However, “it” happens to a lot of us. A time comes when working out is cut out of the schedule. It may happen slowly like during a life change or quickly due to an injury. When “it” happens and our lives begin to change, often the weight piles on. Memories of a fit body seem like a lifetime ago. The idea of adding back in a workout routine is tiresome. Finally a work out routine is put in place and on the first day we hit the gym. We are excited to feel the burn and the energy once again. Then, it happens.
The time spent working out is arduous. It is tiresome. It is painful. Not the kind of pain associated with a good workout but the kind of pain associated with being completely out of shape. Past memories of stair stepping for 45 minutes have turned into 5 minutes. The thought hits your head that this workout may actually kill you. Instead of looking forward to another day at the gym, you look forward to a nap. It is discouraging. It is heartbreaking. It makes you want to give up.
Don’t give up. The feelings you feel are based in pride. You are a different you and if you want the old you back, then fight for it. You can bet past this hurdle. Start today.
