1. Clean Regularly
No matter which room you are dealing with, the best way to ensure that the space feels dressy and presentable is to keep it clean. Develop a cleaning schedule that will facilitate frequent cleaning. It is always easier to clean as you go than to save all of the work for one day. Vacuum and dust regularly, not only because it helps to eliminate dust build-up, but because it is good for your overall health.
Make sure that surfaces, such as countertops, are free from clutter and that items are placed in a manner in which they are useful and easily accessible. The floor should always be free from clutter and have easy walk space. If you have a carpet, it should be straight. Beds should be made, blankets should be folded and any items, such as coats, should be stored properly where they belong.
2. Add Carpet
Any room, from the kitchen to the laundry room, can benefit from the installation of a small carpet. The carpet will be soft on your feet and will help to add color and style to your space. Inexpensive carpets can be purchased on sale at any carpet warehouse. Or, you can purchase small carpets from a home decorating store. Bathroom carpets, entryway carpets and kitchen carpets can usually be rotated, as they tend to be small and easy to wash.
Carpets do however, get dirty and tend to shed if you have pets. Therefore, it is especially important that you clean you carpets regularly. You will find that the addition of carpets can really pull your space together and help to create a nice flow throughout your home.
3. Wall
Decorate your walls using fancy shelves and artwork. Depending on your budget, you may be able to purchase nice original pieces of artwork from local artists. This artwork can feature scenes from your city and will help to add to your style. Small shelves are always nice on the wall if you enjoy placing candles of vases around your space. Make sure that you install them carefully so that they do not fall down under the weight of your items.
4. Pillows
Accent pillows will help to add interest, comfort and color to your space. They are easy to make and inexpensive to purchase. Shop at a local home decorating store for pillows that match your color scheme, but add a flare of something different. For example, if your furniture is red, then purchase a gold pillow to add some contrast. Many people also enjoy changing their pillows with each season. Changing pillows is an inexpensive way to add a sense of celebration and turnover to your space.
5. Accessories
Use accessories, such as plants, candles and pictures, to make your home feel personal and inviting. Your accessories will speak a lot about your style and the things in which you value, so use them wisely and place them accordingly throughout your home. Make sure that you can still clean your space easily and effectively with your accessories. Remember: too many personal items left out will make your home feel cluttered and uninviting.
