How Does Your Home Feel

Spring cleaning is everyone’s favorite thing, right? Well, maybe not the cleaning itself but the end result is certainly one of my favorite things. There is nothing I like more than a clean house, I just wish I wasn’t the one who always had to do the cleaning.

Our home is so much more than just the place we lay our heads at night, it is a reflection of who we are and how we live the rest of our lives. We all want a home that is peaceful, warm and brings us comfort. There are other things we want from our homes as well, for me, I want it to be unique and full of handmade items that bring a feeling of tradition and love. Since it’s the time that we all dig into cleaning our homes maybe its also time that we determine what we would like our home to be or say.

Before you start cleaning think about what your intention is in your home. Is your home a place of fun, chaos and laughter? Maybe you lean more towards quiet comfort and peacefulness. What do you want to feel when you walk into your home and what do you want others to feel.

My house is a jumble of bright colors and mismatched prints. I love color and patterns. I hope that my house says come in, grab a drink, put your feet up and stay a while. Decide what you like and what feels like home to you.

Once you have a general idea of what you want for your home, use that when you are doing your spring cleaning. Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit in with how you want your home to feel. Move things around, maybe the artwork in the dining room fits better with the feeling you want in the family room.

Your home is a reflection of who you are so stop living by someone else’s rules. If you don’t use your formal dining room and would love to make it plant filled reading room because the lighting is perfect, do it. When you walk in the front door you should be surrounded by things that make you feel loved and at home so toss out that elephant statue your great aunt gave you that no one likes, someone else will love it and you will make room for something that makes your heart happy.
