The End of the Road

I knew this time would come eventually. Yet, somehow a decade ago it never seemed it would. It is time to send my oldest to high school. My husband and I came to an agreement that I would only homeschool until junior high. When that time came around he decided to homeschool until high school. A part of me wondered if he would make the decision to homeschool through high school but he is sticking to the plan. My daughter is excited about going to school. She will be around more kids her own age and hear less chaos from her younger brother and sisters. She is a very orderly girl living in my kaleidoscope world. It saddens me to see her go but a part of me is excited for her new adventure. I will still have three children at home to homeschool so thankfully my days as a homeschooling mom are not over. I dread that day the most.

I have been asked why my husband is insistent on sending my daughter to high school. Some ask as if sending her to school is a crime. Some expected homeschool to end once the high school years hit. My husband does not think that it is impossible to homeschool through high school. My husband is not a fan of the public school system. However, he feels we are unable to provide the best high school experience due to a dip in income and all my other obligations. While, extreme homeschoolers and drive a truck through the holes in his argument, I know my husband. My husband only makes decisions that benefit the family. He may not always make the same decisions I would but his track record is gold so as his wife I stand by him. I also understand his reasons and agree with him to a point. He prefers she goes to school only half time and that option is available so perhaps that is what we will chose. However, I found a school that I am happy with and excited for her to attend. No one is more surprised by that then me.

So, this homeschool mom is coming to the end of the journey with one child. Just like any transition it is bittersweet. If you experienced sending a child to school or graduating a child, please comment.
