Grateful For The Opportunity to Work From Home

One great thing about being a home – based professional is that you can do your work in the comfort of your own home. This aspect of home – based work has been especially enjoyable the past few months as I have gotten more and more pregnant and less and less comfortable in the maternity clothes that I wore the last time around. As offensive as it is to my sense of fashion, I spend much of my time in sweatpants including my work time.

Some home – based professionals would advise against working in your pajamas or sweatpants, insisting that if you are not dressed for work than you are not taking work seriously. While I respect that opinion, I feel that I do better work when I am comfortable than when I am squeezed into uncomfortable clothes that cause me to focus on how uncomfortable I am. Of course, I must squeeze into the aforementioned uncomfortable clothes when I have things to do for work outside of the home but those days are the rule and not the exception. As soon as I return home from my meeting or court date, I run to the bedroom to ditch the dress in favor of the sweatpants.

There are other benefits that home – based work offers in addition to a more relaxed dress code. The freedom to work outside of normal business hours has been a lifesaver for me. Even though I work part time, I acknowledge that I would be working far fewer hours if I had to work between the hours of nine and five, Monday through Friday. Most of my work gets done between nine at night and two in the morning. Other wonderful home – based business things that I am grateful for include the ability to eat and drink whatever I need or want while I am working, the ability to take my work on the road with me if I go somewhere where I might be able to get some work done, and the fact that this week and last week, I have not had to drive anywhere to go to work. Mud season is here and our road has days where it is treacherous at best, if not pretty much impassable.

Do you work from home? What aspects of your home – based work are you most grateful for?
